The Setting Sun: When Everything Falls Apart — Modern English Edition

An old world is dying. One daughter must decide what survives after everything she knows falls apart.

In postwar Japan, Kazuko's once-privileged family is losing its status, financial security, and place in society. As her mother declines and her brother struggles with his own turmoil, Kazuko watches the world that shaped her family begin to disappear. The old rules no longer offer an easy way forward—but surrendering to the past isn't her only choice.

Osamu Dazai's *The Setting Sun* is a powerful Japanese literary novel about a family's decline, social upheaval, class, and the struggle to find an identity when the life you inherited no longer fits. When everything familiar collapses, what kind of future can you build from what remains?

This Modern English Edition presents Dazai's novel in clear, contemporary English while preserving the original work as faithfully as possible.

Human-narrated by Luke Meinier Dalofin, this edition brings the story to listeners through a direct, expressive human performance—not synthetic voice narration.

For listeners interested in Japanese literature, postwar fiction, family drama, class conflict, and stories about personal and social change.
