Camp Wisdom

Camp Wisdom, by Kobe Rivers, is a work of fictional realism set in Dallas, Texas, exploring how systemic racism and long-standing oppression shape the choices, identity, and survival of a Black inner-city community. Through the lens of an inner-city high school, the story reveals how limited opportunities, generational pressures, and the constant pursuit of validation influence everyday decisions.

The novel follows five high-school student athletes whose lives take a dangerous turn after being influenced by one member of the group, driven by vengeance against a powerful drug dealer. What begins as a robbery at a mansion in Cedar Hill quickly unravels. Though they get the money, loyalty fractures, paranoia grows, and brotherhood collapses under pressure as consequences pile up, the same drug dealer they crossed begins hunting them down—closer than they ever imagined.

Gritty and unfiltered, Camp Wisdom exposes how racism-driven systems push young people toward impossible choices, and how running from identity in a world stacked against you often leads straight into the fire.
