Auckland Philharmonia: Mahler 1

About this event

Child Policy: This performance is not suitable for children under six years old. Children aged 16 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver who attends the event with the child. Conductor --- Giordano Bellincampi Violin --- Ning Feng Wagner --- Lohengrin: Prelude to Act I Berg --- Violin Concerto Mahler --- Symphony No.1 'Titan' Mahler's astonishing First Symphony begins with the primeval sound of the world awakening: it tells stories of love, death, nature; it ends with the sheer elation of being alive. It will sweep you away. Wagner's music is rarely so celestial as in the prelude to his drama of forgiveness and redemption. Violinist Ning Feng makes a welcome return to the Town Hall stage for Berg's dream-smitten concerto 'in memory of an angel', contemplating nostalgia, tender affection, and rage against fate.
