On an illicit hunt to prove himself worthy of his pregnant girlfriend, the army deserter is pursued by policeman Sam and poacher Sakinu. As Baru ventures deeper into Paiwan ancestral territory, memories of hunting with his late father reconnect him with Indigenous culture and Nature’s spirits. Yet economic realities drive him to violate a historical taboo, leading to a fateful encounter with the mythical Black Bear, revered by his tribe. Set amid the 1990s Indigenous rights movement in Taiwan, The Last Hunter redefines heroism through a poetic journey into Indigenous spirituality.
